Tamil Copycat movies

Here I have collected the Tamil movies that have copied from hollywood movies. Some movies were copied from other language movies such as German, French too. Some movies have scene by scene copy from hollywood movie and in some movies only the plot has been extracted. Few movies listed here were
accepted by directors that the movie is remade from the hollywood movie. Some directors never accept that they have copied even we have several proofs.

Not all the Tamil copied movies were blockbuster. Only talented director like K.S.Ravikumar, Sundar C reached their goal. From this list it is clear that we can give Biggest Tamil copycat award to K.S.Ravikumar. He copied many movies which are not included in the list. Emerging copycat award goes to Gautham Vasudev Menon, he is very talented guy choosing only the main theme of the movie and present that in Tamil. That makes us to confuse whether this movie is copied or not.

We can leave the directors who succeed by copying movies from Hollywood. There are some directors who delivered poor movie even after copying. Those Tamil directors  were fit for nothing.

The list of Kollywood Copycat Movie goes below:

Thiruvampadi Thampan Malayalam Movie review

Thiruvampadi Thampan Review
Producer- Alexander John
Director- M Padmakumar
Cast- Jayaram, Haripriya, Jagathy Sreekumar, Kishore, Nedumudi Venu, Jayaprakash, Samuthirakani etc.
Music- Ouseppachan
Review By : Unni R Nair/ Kerala9.com

If you ask me if I was bored watching ‘Thiruvampadi Thampan’, I’d have to come out with a very honest ‘no’. But then, when I look back on the film that I have seen, I realize that I haven’t carried with me anything when I left the theatre and that I wouldn’t have lost much if I hadn’t seen the movie. But of course there were certain things good about the film, which I liked while watching and which would have made a better impact if the film was scripted better and directed better.
‘Thiruvampadi Thampan’ is the story of Thiruvampadi Mathan Tharakan (Jagathy Sreekumar) and his son Thiruvampadi Thampan (Jayaram), who love elephants and go around supplying elephants to organizers of temple festivals and other such events. In the meantime, Thampan reveals that he is in love with a Brahmin girl Anjali (Haripriya). It’s his father who stands by him and helps him marry Anjali, in spite of opposition from others in the film.
Things go smooth till the father-sun duo set out to Sonpur to buy an elephant from the elephant mela. On the way back, they pass through Madurai. It’s at Madurai that they cross tracks with the very powerful Shakthivel (Kishore). Mathan Tharakan accidentally happens to clash with Shakthivel and even hits Shakthivel with his car in a bid to escape them. Since they understand that it could be dangerous to stay on in Madurai, they flee the city, with timely help by Xavier (T G Ravi), who runs a garage there.
Soon, Shakthivel’s brother dies and he decides to avenge his brother’s death. He pledges to hunt down the guy who is responsible for that. He had just caught a glimpse of Mathan Tharakan, but doesn’t know who he is. Anyway, he sets out, determined to avenge the death of his brother. Thampan meanwhile comes to know of this and is determined to save his father at all costs.
So that’s what ‘Thiruvampadi Thampan’ is all about. Hey, do I hear you asking questions? Yes, lots of questions could come up. Is it about love for elephants? Is the film about the love between a Christian guy and a Brahmin gal? Is it about a father and son and their bonding? Is it a revenge story? Well ‘Thiruvampadi Thampan’ is all this and that is what makes it go shallow. Had the writer and the director worked a bit more carefully and made it focus more on the revenge aspect and related drama and sidelined all else, it would have been much better. As of now, ‘Thiruvampadi Thampan’ just gives you some moments of intense drama and some good performances from some key players and turns out to be just a so so kind of film.
Performance
Jayaram is good in the title role. Tamil actor Kishore steals the show as Shakthivel while Jayaprakash (Tamil producer turned actor) and Samuthirakani (Tamil director-actor who has already done a key role in Padmakumar’s earlier ‘Shikkar’) too put in good performances. Jagathy Sreekumar doesn’t impress us much, especially since his sound seems to be dubbed by someone else, following his accident and hospitalization. Mimicking doesn’t work here in his case. Haripriya doesn’t have much to do and all the others in the cast are just so so.
Technical aspects
Technical aspects are all in tune with the subject and Manoj Pillai’s frames stand out as excellent.
Music
Songs set to tune by Ouseppachan are not bad, but they won’t stay for long in our hearts and memories.
Script
S. Suresh Babu does it again; he loses yet another good opportunity. Suresh Babu is a script writer who has got great opportunities and who has sort of missed those by not being able to make the most of them. ‘Dadasahib’, ‘Thandavam’ and of course ‘Thiruvampadi Thampan’ too are examples. It’s the script that plays foil in the case of this film. If the writer had focused primarily on the revenge drama and if he had paid better attention to characterization and packaging, the film would have been better.
Direction
M Padmakumar is in control as the director, but with the script that he bases his film on, there is not much that he could do to make the film outstanding or extremely impressive. ‘Thiruvampadi Thampan’ definitely won’t rank amongst his best films, but let’s take solace in the thought that he is the one who made the utterly insufferable ‘Parunthu’ too.
Verdict:  Bad script makes it go bad; some good moments, some good performances!

Veendum Kannur Movie Review

Veendum Kannur Review
Producer- Latheef Thiroor
Director- Haridaas
Cast- Anoop Menon, Sivaji Guruvayoor, Tiny Tom, Irshad, Sandhya, Riza Bawa, Rajiv Pillai etc.
Music- Robin Thirumala
Review By : Unni R Nair/ Kerala9.com

I honestly was confused when I was going to watch ‘Veendum Kannur’; I had no idea how it would turn out to be. But being someone who watches movies of all kinds without preconceptions, I just walked into the theatre with a free mind. Less than two hours later, when I walk out, I am happy and contented. I am satisfied with the film I had just seen and call Haridaas, the direct to tell him he needs to promote the film. (He doesn’t pick my call, could be busy or something!).

‘Veendum Kannur’ takes us to Kannur, where politics and violence cannot be separated; political violence has always been part of life in Kannur, in the past many years especially. Jayakrishnan (Anoop Menon), a JNU product who had left Kannur disillusioned by the politics and political happenings and the violence, comes back from Delhi. Anoop, who is the son of the veteran communist Madayi Surendran (Sivaji Guruvayoor), who is also the party secretary, is back in Kannur because of his love for Radhika (Sandhya), who is a journalist. Radhika is also the daughter of Divakaran (Riza Bawa), who has always been the political adversary. Jayakrishnan is provided top security as he is the son of the party secretary and also because Divakaran’s men, who are always ready to strike against political adversaries, could target him. Jayakrishnan is attacked the very day he lands up and there are consequent attacks too. That flares him up and he chooses not to go into hiding or shy away from things. He launches his own kind of movement, a new version of communism, which he feels is the need of the hour. He clashes ideologically with his father as well as with Radhika’s father and spearheads a revolution of sorts. It’s from here that the story takes off.

Well, don’t take ‘Veendum Kannur’ as yet another political thriller with the usual ingredients. Yes, you could find some of those elements here and many not-so-passing references to contemporary politics. You could identify characters with those in contemporary politics and who are always in news. But all the same, the writer and the director have played smart and have saved the film from becoming a usual political flick, which you would perhaps not like to see. The film is a balanced approach. There is heroism, but not the usual kind of heroism. There are punch dialogues, but not the kind that you’d see in Shaji Kailas films or Ranji Panicker films. There are moments of thrill, but there are not many explosions and loud action sequences. It’s more of an ideological clash that happens mostly and there is subtle politics that’s discussed than mere power politics and the usual good guys vs. bad guys things. There is no superman kind of hero but at the same time there is heroism in ‘Veendum Kannur’. Hey don’t think I am making it out to be a great movie. It isn’t great movie, but it is decently written and decently directed and is very much worth a watch. There are flaws, but pardonable ones. Take for example the supporting roles, some of which are not well conceived or well written-out. I don’t want to highlight the flaws for this one venture somehow as it’s most likely going to be a low-profile film and hence it would be good if it makes at least some people sit up and think.

Anyway, laudable effort, decent work, by writer Robin Thirumala and director Haridaas.
Performance
The film belongs to Anoop Menon. He plays the role of Jayakrishnan in his usual style and makes it credible. The others in the cast, especially those in key roles are good. Good to see Tiny Tom evolving into a good actor. Sandhya doesn’t have much to do. Some of the minor roles could have been played by better actors.
Technical aspects
Nothing much to say about the technical aspects; there’s nothing extraordinary or bad. It’s all just so so. You may even tend to think that the film would have been better if it had better cinematography and was edited better. Yes, maybe.
Music
I should say that the songs are good, but may not go down with the present generation film viewers in Kerala. For those who are obsessed with the so-called ‘new generation’ films (Hey I am not against the present trend, I have liked some of those excellently made movies, I am just against the ‘new generation’ obsession of the new generation audience), the songs of this film may not have much of an appeal. But they are good nevertheless.
Script
Good work, Robin Thirumala. Of course I feel he could have done more justice to some of the supporting characters, especially those played by Riza Bawa and Irshad, both basically good actors. Still, good work.
Direction
Haridaas has made a good attempt making ‘Veendum Kannur’. He proves that he can make good films, films that talk of issues that relate to contemporary life and politics in a decent manner. Good work!
Verdict:  Decent work, good and worth a watch!
